Information:
Summertime and York resident Rebecca Gonzalez returns home on the summer leg of her Sonata for Rain book tour.
Rebecca Gonzalez is a native New Yorker currently living in York, PA. She secretly began to write short stories and poems at age 10, however, it was not until 2004 that she shared her poetry with the public. She now writes daily to-do lists and when she is not reading, spends her free time looking for those lists. Oh, yes, she continues to write poetry too.
She believes that writing poetry is closely related to music composition and art in which various elements combine to create a piece that is highly individual, the ultimate goal being that it can breathe beyond its realities. She's inspired by music, nature, love, art and the human condition. She revels in details and enjoys watching them fold and unfold in daily life.
Her diverse influences include: Khalil Gibran, Pablo Neruda, Rabidranath Tagore, Rumi, Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, Margaret Atwood, Gherasim Luca, Jeff Rath, Deanna Nikaido and Federico Garcia Lorca.
Her work has been published on-line at The Cerebral Catalyst, Haggard and Halloo and Poetryork and in print in Fledgling Rag, Hanover Sun and the York Daily Record. She placed 5th at the Arts for Peace and Justice Heavyword Poetry Slam in 2005 ─ her first attempt at performance poetry and competition. She is a Pushcart nominee and the 2008 R.E. Foundation Award winner for Outstanding Poetry.
